Jacco's OS/2 page
Note: I have not used OS/2 for some time now, so if you want to contact
me I regret that I may not be able to help.

OS/2 port of rdesktop, a free
client
for the RDP protocol. It works as a "thin client" which you can use to
connect to Windows NT4TS/2000/2003/XP. This is not a native PM port.
You'll
need EMX and XFree86/OS2.

Lots of information on
networking with Samba and OS/2.
Problems getting your OS/2 machine connected to a Samba
server? Need an OS/2 version of Samba? Want to use Warp 3 non-Connect
or
OS/2 2.x to connect to a Samba server? It's all there!
-
What if you don't have Warp Connect or Warp 4 but you do have a
network card in your OS/2 1.x, OS/2 2.x or Warp machine? So you're on a
network and you want to access files on other machines, including ones
running Windows for Workgroups, Windows95, Windows NT, LanServer, Warp
Server, Warp Connect, Warp 4, Samba and LanManager? Well, contrary to
popular
belief, Microsoft still has some free OS/2 software for you on their
FTP
site: Microsoft LAN Manager Client for OS/2. Read more about MS
LanMan.
-
Not really OS/2 related, but nevertheless interesting if you want to connect
a whole Ethernet LAN with multiple (OS/2) machines to the Internet,
using a personal (= cheap) Internet account. The focus is mainly on
ISDN,
but OS/2 is mentioned here and there.

'Release candidate' of NPSWPS 1.90
(superb
desktop enhancement, includes exit button and full window drag). I
added
an easy install script (REXX is great!) and translated the docs plus
the
program itself into Dutch. NPSWPS nu ook in het Nederlands!
French,
Finnish, Italian and German versions included! Latest version of the IPF
source code in English and other languages.

FreeTCP will allow you to use regular
Warp on
your (Ethernet) LAN. Included with it is also a script
which creates new icons for the applications IBM supplied in the IAK.
You
can use it if you get tired of "Not connected to the Internet" messages
when using 'Dial Other Providers'.
-
FreeIPX will allow you to run IPX
network programs
(DOS games such as Doom, Duke3D, Descent, etc.) with regular Warp on
your
(Ethernet) LAN. The advantage over using DOS IPX drivers in a DOS box
is
that with FreeIPX you can use the network card concurrently with other
applications. For instance, you could download a big file with FTP (see
FreeTCP below!) AND blow somebody's brain out with Duke3D over
the
same network! :-)
-
A bunch of texture BMPs (marble, stone,
raindrops, wood, etc.) which can be used as a background for folders
(Windows
can't do that). Unzip them to a directory, then use the Drives object
to
locate that directory. Even on a FAT partition you'll see long
filenames,
provided you used
Info-Zip's
Unzip. PMView was used to
convert
the bitmaps from .IFF (Amiga) to .BMP and it created the
icons/thumbnails
automatically. Open up the settings of a folder, click on the
"Background"
tab and drag a background icon to the white "preview" spot.

Information on using SLiRP and Warp.
-
The FDISK from OS/2 2.1, which might be used
if
you experience difficulties with your
partition
table under OS/2 Warp (in most cases, however, you simply need an
updated
IDE driver).
-
Want to install OS/2 but your CD-ROM is not supported (or the CD-ROM is
only available elsewhere on your LAN)? Read these instructions on copying
the OS/2 installation files to harddisk.
-
Got troubles using your Sound Blaster 2.0 clone with OS/2 Warp? Let's hack
the SoundBlaster security check out of the way!
-
Need more time to evaluate the Visual Age
C++ trial CD? Use the command PATCH VISAGE.TXT
and then decide later. (Yeah, this is a crack. But it's for Age old
software...).
